Welcome to Ostrich Party- a joyful little corner of the world, from the heart of artist Rachel Brown.

Art runs in my blood. I am the daughter of an Art teacher (whose love language is a hand-written note) and the granddaughter of a Folk painter. No gourd was left unpainted when Granny had her brushes out.  Following in their footsteps, I have spent the last decade as a full-time painter. 

At my core, I am a portrait artist and lifelong people-watcher. Most of these critters are inspired by real characters in my life, lovingly reimagined with feathers, fur, and a lot of personality. **Some names have been changed to protect privacy...

I met my original muse, an Ostrich- in rural Missouri, on my neighbors farm. He was there mysteriously and without explanation, but I saw a kindred spirit in him- as an awkward, slightly-out-of-place creature myself, just trying to survive adolescence. 

Years later, Ostriches began to appear to my work. As I found my community of artists, dreamers and other misfits.. the ostriches subconsciously became a group. A gathering. A reunion. A celebration. An Ostrich Party. 

Ostrich Party is about celebrating your people- the ones who make life lighter, brighter, and more beautiful. From big milestones to tiny "just because" surprises... Ostrich Party was created to celebrate it all. 

I believe in the power of joy. I believe in the magic of a handwritten note. And I definitely believe everything is better when a raccoon in a pink fur jacket is involved. I hope you see yourself (or your best friend..  or your Uncle) in my work.  I hope it brings a smile to your face.
